Julie Jarvis presents new ink paintings born from daily walks in forests and ravines. Working primarily with black sumi ink, select pieces incorporate natural inks made from plants, nuts, and blooms gathered on these walks—allowing the land itself to enter the work directly.

Each painting begins in meditation, returning to stillness. From there, the brushwork emerges through fluid gesture and spacious composition. The stillness in these works is not empty—it is alive, holding movement, force, and presence.

Set in the restored Royal Hotel in Picton, the exhibition offers quiet space to encounter these living marks that are always shifting, always becoming.

Contemplative Sessions
Julie Jarvis will offer intimate sessions for experiencing the work through stillness and presence. A collaboration with local author Sarah Selecky will combine sitting, movement, seeing, and gentle exchange. These gatherings invite slowing down and encountering the paintings in a more direct way.

Room to Breathe

Room to Breathe
was a solo exhibition of 33 ink paintings presented in April 2025 at Avant Garde, an open, light-filled 4,500-square-foot space in Toronto. Conceived as an immersive and nourishing experience, the exhibition brought together ink, sound, and silence, creating room for visitors to slow down, connect, and breathe.
